And here the Framer's notes conclude.
To return to my story - the clause in the Framer's
last will that really set the cat amongst the pigeons was his instruction
that the whole collection should be destroyed after his death! It seems
that he had such a hostile fixation on the art world that he wanted none
of his precious collection to fall into their hands. You can imagine how
much that pleased his creditors who immediately filed lawsuits blocking
the move. Meanwhile his executors, persuaded by their own enthusiasm, decided
to put the collection on public display for the first time. No sooner was
the show open than a mysterious fire one night reduced all but a handful
of the paintings to ashes. The next day Dorcus Walker and John Farrelly
were taken in for questioning but released without charges. All that remains
now are a few images and installation shots to record what was once The
Framer's Collection.
The final picture I have to offer the patient viewer
was taken at the private view and shows the executors with their art world
cronies. |
