Kafka in Terezin

The upper text is from a Czech version of Metamorphosis. The lower text is from 'The Theory and Practice of Hell; the German Concentration Camp and the System Behind Them' by Eugen Kogon. It deals here with the extermination of tubercular patients. Franz Kafka's favorite sister, Otla Davidova, was one of the voluntary nurses who looked after the 1,3000 Jewish children from the Bialystok ghetto in Poland during their time in Terezin. The children and nurses were deported to Auschwitz and sent directly to the gas chambers.
