Small feathers from
a pillow drift onto the newsprint which reads:
I have to face up to the question of what I've said in the past and what
I'm saying today. I can only be a partner in dialogue if - honest with myself
- I don't change now what I've said before.
The woman, seen from the back, is driving along a narrow dirt track towards a church in a small copse on a hill. The circular tower, thatched roof and flushwork are of a kind found in East Anglia. In the offside mirror of the car is reflected a part of her face, the eyes are closed.
A painting of a bishop, which is so worn and marked that it may be taken to be that of a skeleton.
The fractured space of a Gothic city. A huge crowd sweeps in from the left whilst a wall of reinforced concrete collapses towards the right. Behind is revealed the naked woman who uses her hands to cover herself. The man, separated from her by rubble and people, turns away. Caught in the confusion is the Czech politburo, a smashed camera and a horse devouring itself. Partially hidden by the shadow of a building is another couple - conspirators.
History...another universe built by man with the help of time and memory in answer to the challenge of death.
