High Seas



Daybreak finds the punt carried out beyond the estuary into a turbulent and stormy sea where it is in immanent jeopardy of sinking. Tropical debris mixes with icebergs which drift freely in the ocean. Stranded on one is a polar bear. From the prow of the vessel Odysseus waves towards a distant oil platform, in a gesture evoking Gericault's shipwrecked survivors in his painting of 'The Raft of the Medusa', which hangs in the Louvre Museum, Paris.
